A 6-volume book on Periyar E.V. Ramasamy’s writings in his “Kudiarasu” magazine in 1926, 1927 and 1928 was released by Minister for School Education Thangam Thennarasu in the year 2010-2011.
B.Purushothaman, Principal, Everwin Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Kolathur, was among those who received the first copies at a simple ceremony at Periyar Thidal, Vepery.
Published by the Periyar Self-Respect Propaganda Institution, the book is a compilation of hundreds of editorials Periyar wrote about several burning issues of the time.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Thangam Thennarasu said the syllabus under Equitable Standards of Education contained lessons on Periyar’s ideals as was advised by the Chief Minister. “All the state libraries in Tamil Nadu will showcase these books also” he added.
Claiming that because of Periyar’s relentless campaign against discrimination of people on caste lines, a number of people from the downtrodden sections of the society are today occupying highest positions in the country.
Dravida Kazhagam President K. Veeramani presided over the event. Director of Public Libraries Arivoli, journalist Chinna Kuthusi and several others were also present.
