Science labs go ultra modern at Everwin

A 2500 sq.ft. state-of-the-art science laboratory was inaugurated at Everwin Matriculation Higher Secondary School in the year 2010-2011. A large number of students and parents were present.
The new Physics, Chemistry and Biology labs were inaugurated by Dr. K. Duraipandian, Member, Syndicate of Madras University and Principal, Agarsen College, Madhavaram.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Duraipandian said the labs matched the standards of a college. “The very ambience of the school resembles that of a College. I have inspected the infrastructure of many colleges as syndicate member and the lab facilities here do indeed match all that” he added.
Dr. Duraipandian also exhorted the school students to make use of the science infrastructure made available by Madras University at Taramani for school students.
“Students can visit and even undertake some research and experiments there for three months and the university issues a certificate for the same” he said.
Mr. B. Purushothaman, principal of the school, said students need to think, explore and analyse all facilities the modern life provides us.
“Find condensation and evaporation while the water boils, emulsion process while baking cakes, chemical reactions of soaps while suspending the dirt from our body, combustion of engines while riding vehicles and the response of seeds to sunlight and water” he told the students. Pointing out that all great scientists explore and asked ‘why - what - how’ questions before coming out with some novelty, Mr. B. Purushothaman asked the students not to blindly accept and enjoy the technology. “Keep your brain alive and afresh and you can become a scientist too” he told them.
V. Mageswari, CEO of the school said the new labs were built at cost of Rs. 7 lakhs. All the students from class VI will be making use of the facilities to the maximum, she added.
The decision to expand the existing lab facility was taken after overwhelming enthusiasm the students of the school showed in science when a junior science expo was organised at the school last year with the State Minister for School education Thangam Thennarasu as the chief guest, Mrs. Mageswari said.
“Even students of class III and IV wish to make experiments at science laboratory. So we decided to expand the facility and put in place the most modern one”.
M. Kalaiarasi, Senior Vice Principal, other Vice Principals and teachers were also present.
