Students celebrate Independence Day with veg. and fish vendors

50 girl students of Everwin Matriculation Higher Secondary School , Kolathur today spread some patriotic fervour among the people by adorning national flags on the fish and vegetable vendors in Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, Perambur. The vendors, mostly women, wore the flag with joy and pride.

For the 150-odd vendors, it was a pleasant surprise as at 10.30 a.m. today (Saturday), the girls accompanied by two teachers landed in the centre of the busy market. Simultaneously, the ID fete was going on in the school.

“We have come to celebrate the Independence Day with you today’ they declared and started wearing the flags on the person of the vendors, one by one,
“It is a new idea and different experience for us all. This is happening for the first time here. Though we have not studied in schools, we love this country as much as anybody else’ said Malliga, a fish vendor.

Nishalya, Class XI student said, “We did not expect this overwhelming response to our decision to celebrate Independence Day with these lovable people. Everyone is ecstatic ove here”.

The students wound up the one hour campaign by sharing sweets with them. The TVK Nagar market is the largest and most crowded one in Perambur.
