Moved by the appeal made by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to donate
for the cause of suffering Sri Lankan Tamils, students of a Everwin Matriculation
Higher Secondary School on November 1, 2008 presented a cheque to the State
government as part of their contribution.
Responding to the appeal, the students of Everwin Matriculation
Higher Secondary School at suburban Kolathur, on their own collected
Rs 41,056 from their fellow students and gave the amount to the
School Management, which presented the same to Mr Karunanidhi at
the State Secretariat.

Ms Kalaiarasi and CEO Maheswari led a delegation of students to the
State Secretariat and presented the cheque to the Chief Minister.
''It's purely a voluntary effort by the students. They did it on
their own. The school management was not involved in it. We only
played the role of a facilitator by handing it over to the Chief
Minister'', Ms Kalaiarasi and Mr Purushothaman told UNI.
''In fact we are surprised when they handed over the amount to
the Principal as part of their contribution to the Sri Lankan Tamils
Relief Fund'', they said.
It was an effort initiated by the Class leaders and School Pupil
Leaders who started collecting money for this noble cause moved by
the Chief Minister's appeal to donate liberally.
Students S Sneha (fourth standard), P Aiswarya (fifth standard)
S.Revathi and Barani (both sixth standard), D V Gayathri (eighth),
V Nishanth (ninth) and V Pravalika (eleventh) accompanied the school
management team, met the Chief Minister and presented the cheque.
The five vice principals of the School, Mrs. Jayanthi, Mrs. Sharmila, Mrs. Indhumathi, Mrs. Sameen and Miss. Lakshmi also met the Chief Minister and handed over a cheque for Rs.40,000 towards the second and final payment to the Fund, the total contribution amounting to Rs. 81,056.
