We don’t do different things. We do things differently. And our phenomenal growth is no surprise. :-Everwin Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Kolathur is one of the largest English medium schools in North Chennai in terms of both student strength and area of operation with over 4,200 students studying in a 2-acre campus. This phenomenal growth has been made possible in a short span of 17 years since the school’s inception in 1992.

‘Innovation in teaching techniques’ has been the watchword throughout. And all activities in the school take place with a single target in mind – Good Marks; Good English; Good Career.

The school has a unique method of training the students. Called daily ‘Training and Test’ (TT), the scheme envisages teachers training the students on the previous day’s portions from 2.20 to 3.20 p.m. everyday. A test is conducted thereafter from 3.20 to 3.50 p.m. and the marks are entered in an exclusive record. This record is sent to parents during weekends.

Another scheme ‘Pre-Exam Contest’ by name ties all sections in a particular class in an exciting contest prior to each of the major examination. Questions under OMR shading and quiz format are the features of this contest. The students of the best section are rewarded with cash prizes.

Yet another scheme Power Period enables all students from class 3 to 12 to involve themselves in the ‘power period’ which improves their all round skills. A skill a day such as, for example, group discussion, newspaper reading, calculative skill and vocabulary skill is trained at regular intervals.

A number of programmes aimed at enriching the extracurricular skills are conducted at the school. In December 2008, School Education Minister Thangam Thennarasu inaugurated a science expo at our school efficiently organized by the primary class kids. A no-smoking campaign, painting of Gandhiji picture on a 22,000 sq.ft area in our playgrounds, a snake awareness show and a seminar for board exam students were also conducted recently.

The school operates nine school buses for transporting the students from distant places.

The school also stands aloof in the promotion policy at class IX and XI levels. The school promotes almost all its class IX and XI students to class X and XII respectively and achieves near 100 per cent results in board exams, without resorting to large scale detentions in the preceding class, just for the sake of getting centum results for fake publicity.

The SMS system facilitates fastest communication with the parents. The Student profile system updates students activities on a weekly basis and the profile is sent to the parents during weekends.

English and communication skills are so dear a matter for the school that weekly conversation and communication classes are a must for all from class III.
